Frequently Asked Questions

Answers

Is Smartchange a Professional Fundraising Organisation?

No, Smartchange is not a Professional Fundraising Organisation.

Unlike Professional Fundraising Organisations, Smartchange does not campaign once or twice a year, it is always on and always there, even accessible from home, if the company allows it.

Also unlike Professional Fundraising Organisations, Smartchange does not charge the charity anything for being in the list or receiving the standard reports. However, the Payroll Giving Agency used by a company or the bank and credit card companies may charge a fee for collecting and distributing the donations.

How will I know if an Employee has donated to my Charity?

Once registered you will be able to access and download online reports. Click here to go to the login page. More reports are being developed and will be uploaded for your use when ready.

I would like to keep in touch with my Employee donor, is that possible?

Some companies do not allow any employee details to be passed to the charity in line with their corporate privacy guidelines. Others leave it up to the employee to decide if they wish to remain anonymous. Check your online donor and donation reports.

My Charity's Smartchange web profile is very basic, is there any way I can change the look and feel?

At this time there is no way for a charity to update the look and feel of their free web profile.

This is because this type of function would add a layer of complexity and cost and we may not be able to continue providing the service for free.

With so many charities registering, how can I get my Charity noticed?

Smartchange is designed to provide all charities with a "level playing field".

A charity with million pound fundraising budget will look exactly the same as a charity with a one hundred pound budget. This means that the public and an employee can judge a charity on its merits, not on how it is able to present itself.

We do have some rules about the order in which charities are presented in the search results.

The rules are mainly to provide the user with the most up to date information available, but also act as an incentive for the charity to update their profile at least once a month.

1- A charity with a lot of information will be high up in the results;

2- A charity that has recently made significant updates to their information will be higher in the list;

Lastly, we would encourage you to upload your organisation's logo to your profile. An image will capture a donor's eye better than just text.

I have received emails from a Smartchange company and don't know what to do

When a company uses the Smartchange solution to help manage their community involvement programmes, you may receive emails asking you to take some action. This could be to confirm you received an employee donation; to help the employee volunteering process; to provide feedback on a fundraising activity or a request for more information. The email will contain all the information you will need to complete the task. Normally all you need to do is click on a link in the email.

When I search for my charity I find it but it says it was added by Smartchange. Is there a way I can update this very limited information?

Yes, the limited information you can see is a directory listing. We added this information at the request of an employee who wishes to support your organisation. Your can replace this brief entry by registering. Click here to register for free

I registered over 4 working days ago now and my profile does not yet appear?

It may be that there is a back-log in the system, this can happen during period of high activity. All new registrations are manually checked, this can take time. These checks are demanded by companies that use the Smartchange solution to reduce the risk that their employees or the company itself inadvertently supports an “inappropriate” organisation.

It could also be that your organisation does not qualify for a profile. This could be for a number of reasons; your organisation is not recognised as a charitable organisation; your organisation appears on a Sanctions List or simply that your organisation already has a profile. If you wish to follow up on your registration, please contact us
